ACENPEE TO BOOST ENGINEERING EDUCATION

Engineering education across Sub-Saharan Africa receives a boost with the take off of The African Center of Excellence on New Pedagogies in Engineering Education (ACENPEE). The centre located within the main campus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria is the brain-child of the Association of African Universities (AUU) with the mandate of training highly skilled engineering graduates leading to Masters (M.Sc) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Water Resources and Environmental Engineering.

The establishment of ACENPEE is seen as a direct response to the call and yearnings of the global community of engineering educators for alternative pedagogies to replace or at least supplement the traditional lecture in educating engineers of the present and the future. This initiative will, no doubt, proffer and establish short and long-term solutions to deficiencies associated with pedagogical practices in Africa and Sub-Sahara Africa on the need to produce highly skilled engineers to run the development goals relating to all areas of engineering in the Continent.
